You’ll start this lesson by thinking about what you might find if you dug deeper and deeper into the ground. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about some of the deepest places humans have ever reached, including caves, mines, and the world’s deepest borehole.
You’ll make a model to study how Earth’s materials settled into layers as the planet formed, and use that idea to understand why digging becomes harder the deeper you go.
What you’ll learn:
- How Earth’s layers formed
- Why temperature, pressure, and density increase the deeper you go
- What makes each of Earth’s layers unique
