About this activity
In this activity, you’ll make your own compass rose to learn about the directions on it.
What you’ll learn
- Cardinal, ordinal, and secondary intercardinal directions
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
- Colored markers (optional)
- Compass rose pieces (download below)
- What are the directions on a compass?
- (Optional) If you printed the black-and-white version, use colored markers to decorate the pieces of the compass rose.
- Cut out the compass rose.
- Cut out the cardinal directions (N, S, E, W).
- Cut out the ordinal directions (NE, SE, SW, NW).
- Cut out the secondary intercardinal directions (WNW, NNW, NNE, ENE, ESE, SSE, SSW, WSW).
- Place each direction in its correct position around the compass rose.
- Glue or tape the directions onto the compass rose.
- What is the difference between cardinal, ordinal, and secondary intercardinal points?
