Over 70% of Earth’s surface is covered in water, which leads us to the question that starts off this lesson: if there’s so much water on Earth, why do people talk about needing to conserve it?
We’ll dig into how much of Earth’s water we can actually use, and all of the different things we use it for (including some you might not expect). You’ll get to estimate your own daily water use, then explore where fresh water comes from and how little of it is easy to access. You’ll also learn about different ways scientists are creating more drinkable water, and have a chance to research where the water in your area comes from.
What you’ll learn:
- The amounts of salt water vs. fresh water on Earth
- How much water you use and what you use it for
- Water treatment and filtration methods
