Purpose
What do magnets do? Do they stick to things? Are they attracted to things? Are they attracted to everything? I wonder what kinds of things magnets are attracted to.
Materials
- Magnet
- Metal objects (paperclip, magnetic marbles, etc.)
- Non-metal objects (toothpick, balloon, etc.)
You will also want to print the following data table to record your experiment findings:
Procedure
- Gather different objects you would like to test with your magnet (ask an adult before testing objects from your workspace – magnets can sometimes mess up electronics!)
- Test each object by putting the magnet next to it, and record your findings in the table.
Questions & Further Research
- What are magnets attracted to? Are they attracted to metal? Are they attracted to all metal?
