In this lesson, you’ll learn about the history of the compass, and how Earth’s magnetic field powers it. The first thing you’ll do is make your own compass to see which direction it points. Then, you’ll dive deeper into compasses by building a compass rose. Next, you’ll put all of this knowledge to the test by finding hidden treasure using a compass as your guide. Finally, you will learn about how some living things use magnetism as a sixth sense to navigate the Earth using something called magnetoreception.
